Jean Paul Sartre is reputed to have said that "Hell is other people." Enterprise leaders generally employ HR managers to check compliance with employment law and best practice. How leaders and their organisations are perceived, especially by employees, has more to do with Sartre's view than it has to do with policy.
As staff loyalty and motivation are such intractable topics, it is wise to ensure that the proper HR management framework is in place to minimise the cost of poor performance, disputes and high staff turnover. It is better, however, to be on the front foot by having positive, imaginative and effective HR policies that encourage loyalty and commitment.
